Abhay’s journey to Amstelveen began while he was still in university, having attended the Meet the Team event in 2023 while he was exploring what to do next. After meeting the team and learning more about the work that we do, fast forward a few months later and Abhay had applied to join Amstelveen as part of our 2024 Graduate cohort and begin his career as a technology risk consultant.

Read below to hear what Abhay has to say about the value of our Meet the Team event, and how it helped him to make his decision to join the team.

What is the Meet the Team event?

Meet the Team is a great opportunity to connect with the Amstelveen team, get to know the company, and learn about the work we do. The night will involve a graduate panel, a Q&A session, and then social networking with the broader Amstelveen team – which will make for a great night for all attendees! The night helped me learn more about Amstelveen and explore the world of risk consulting, which in turn allowed me to really understand the roles and responsibilities of technology risk consultants.

What is the value of the Meet the Team event for a current student looking for a graduate role?

Meet the Team gave me the chance to learn more about Amstelveen’s culture, open graduate opportunities, and the graduate experience more broadly. I appreciated learning about the different journeys their current graduate intake went through, and gaining insight how they found the application process. The event challenged me to think about my career aspirations and graduate role expectations in a friendly and easy-going environment. I found myself having candid conversations with team members at various stages of their career and discovering valuable insights about the company and team.

What did you find most interesting about the event?

I found it very interesting to hear about the experiences of the previous graduate students and how they transitioned from being students to Amstelveen graduates. It was great to discover that even a wide range of skills and experiences gained throughout university and extracurricular activities were transferrable to the technology risk consulting space. For me personally, the highlight of the event was my impromptu chess game with the Amstelveen team at the end of the night – I didn’t expect people to be so good at chess!

What made you decide to join Amstelveen after attending the event?

My decision to join Amstelveen was driven by the client exposure opportunities, proactive learning initiatives, and the team’s support for personal interests beyond work. I really liked how honest and transparent the Amstelveen team was about their career experience and the benefits of being an Amstelveen graduate. I appreciate the teamwork, culture, and opportunities across a multitude of initiatives found in tight-knit teams – this made Amstelveen an obvious choice. It was really refreshing to see a culture of collaboration and thought diversity, where everyone wants to see you grow!

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is considering attending the event?

I would highly recommend attending the Meet the Team event! My advice is to be confident in yourself, embrace all opportunities, and see where it leads. During the event, I felt completely at ease – the event was well organised, the other attendees were friendly, and everybody was welcoming. I think that Meet the Team will be a great opportunity to learn more about the Amstelveen team and gain unique perspectives from the past graduates, and I’m excited to see everyone there!
